Montessori Wooden Cleaning Set - Blue

A few crumbs under the table after breakfast: your child takes the broom off its hook, sweeps them into a little pile, holds the dustpan steady and empties it into the bin. Then everything goes back on the stand. It is a short task, but one they can finish from start to end on their own, and that is exactly what makes it satisfying.

A wooden cleaning set sized for small hands

Adult brooms are too long and too heavy for a three-year-old, who ends up pushing them about rather than sweeping. Here the handles are short and the whole set weighs only 0.22 kg, so a child can control each movement. Sweeping trains balance and coordination of both arms; using the dustpan and brush together asks one hand to hold still while the other works.

Real chores rather than pretend play

Children of this age want to do what they see adults do. In the Montessori method, these everyday tasks are called practical life activities, and they hold a central place in nursery classrooms. Unlike a plastic toy cleaning set, these tools actually pick up dust and crumbs, so the job your child does is a real one.

Getting started at home

Show the movement slowly, once, without a long explanation: broom low, short strokes towards a small pile. Then give your child a reason to use it, such as sand by the back door or flour after baking together. Place the stand in a corner they can reach, near the kitchen, so the tools are always in sight. Five tools on pegs at child height: it is one of the wooden Montessori toys that changes how a home works, not just how a child plays.
