Magnetic Wooden Letters & Numbers Activity Box

Lift the lid, stand it upright in the grooves of the base, and the box becomes a small desk-top station. Your child takes the tiles out one by one, builds a word on the magnetic board, then turns the lid over to chalk a picture next to it.

What are magnetic letters?

Magnetic letters are small tiles with a magnet on the back, so they cling to a metal board or a fridge door and can be moved around freely. A child builds a word, swaps one tile, reads the new word and starts again without rubbing anything out. In this set each tile is wooden and 2.5 cm square.

Spelling first words and setting out sums

Start with their name: lay it out, mix up two letters and let your child put them back in order. Then change a single tile to turn "cat" into "hat", then "hot". With the numbers, place a 4 and a 3 side by side, chalk in the plus sign and leave a gap for the answer.

Moving from tiles to chalk is a gentle way to go from recognising a symbol to writing it: copy the word built in wood underneath, in chalk or with the marker on the whiteboard side.

A case that keeps every piece together

Fridge letter magnets tend to end up under the furniture. Here everything slides back into the box after play, which makes tidying up part of the activity and the set easy to take to the grandparents' or on holiday.
