20 Classic Wooden Board Games Compendium

Twenty classics in one wooden box

Open the lid and everything is there: double-sided boards, wooden counters, chess pieces and dice. Alongside chess, draughts, ludo and backgammon you will find older favourites such as Nine Men's Morris and Halma, plus more than 80 variations described in the rule booklet.

The box measures 36 x 36 cm and closes neatly, so the whole collection fits on a shelf and comes out in seconds when someone asks for a game.

A compendium of games for the whole family

From six, children can follow rules, wait their turn and count the squares themselves. Start with the dice games, where luck keeps everyone in the running, then move on to draughts and Nine Men's Morris once they enjoy planning a move ahead. Chess and backgammon can wait until they ask for a bigger challenge.

Grandparents often know the rules by heart, which makes this set a lovely way to share an afternoon across three generations. Losing a game of ludo to a seven-year-old is part of the fun.

What children practise while they play

• Counting and simple sums with every roll of the dice
• Thinking ahead and guessing what the other player will do
• Taking turns, winning kindly and losing without a fuss

If you prefer one game in a bigger format, our range of Montessori wooden toys also includes giant ludo and outdoor chess boards.
